Nitroxolin Capsules (Nitroxolinforte) is an antibacterial medication specifically indicated for the treatment of urinary tract infections, exerting significant inhibitory effects on susceptible bacteria and yeasts.

How to Use Nitroxolin Capsules (Nitroxolinforte)

Administration Route and Timing

This medication is administered orally. It is recommended to take it with an adequate amount of water (e.g., one glass) approximately 1 hour before meals.

For the prevention of recurrent infections, administration before bedtime in the evening is recommended.

Standard Dosage Regimen

Treatment of Acute Infections: Adults: 1 capsule once, 3 times daily.

Treatment of Chronic Infections and Prevention of Recurrence: 1–2 capsules daily.

Specific Prevention Regimen: 1–2 capsules once daily.

Administration Precautions

Maintain adequate fluid intake during treatment.

Excretion of the medication in urine may cause harmless yellow discoloration of urine, which may stain clothing but can be removed by normal washing.

It is recommended to avoid wearing synthetic fiber clothing during treatment.

Dosage Adjustments for Nitroxolin Capsules (Nitroxolinforte)

Patients with Renal Impairment

Mild renal impairment (serum creatinine ≤ 2 mg/100 mL): May be used as usual, but drug excretion may be delayed.

Severe renal impairment: Not recommended, as drug excretion and clinical efficacy cannot be guaranteed.

Regular monitoring of liver function indices is required during long-term treatment.

Management of Missed Dose and Overdose

Missed Dose: Continue taking the medication as scheduled; do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one.

Overdose: No special treatment is generally required for mild overdose; consult a physician in case of severe overdose.

Use in Special Populations

Children and Adolescents

Due to the inappropriate dosage strength, this product is not suitable for use in individuals under 18 years of age. Other formulations with low dosage strengths should be selected for this age group.

Patients with Hepatic or Renal Dysfunction

Severe hepatic or renal dysfunction: Contraindicated.

Mild hepatic impairment: Use with close monitoring.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Pregnancy: Use only if the benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus, as animal studies have shown possible effects on the fetal nervous system.

Lactation: Not recommended, as it may affect the infant’s intestinal flora, leading to diarrhea or yeast infections.

Elderly Patients

Special attention should be paid to renal function status and intravascular volume when using this medication in elderly patients; dosage adjustment may be necessary if indicated.

Note: For internal discussion among medical personnel only. For specific medication, please consult the attending physician. Drug information may change over time. For the latest information, we recommend adding a medical consultant or consulting for free online.
