Amlodipine is a long-acting calcium channel blocker that plays an important role in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Its orally disintegrating tablet (ODT) formulation further enhances the convenience of administration through a unique manufacturing process, making it particularly suitable for patients with dysphagia or those requiring rapid onset of action.

What are the Indications for Amlodipine?

Hypertension Treatment

Amlodipine orally disintegrating tablets are indicated for the treatment of patients with hypertension at all stages, either as monotherapy or in combination with other antihypertensive drugs.

Its antihypertensive mechanism stems from a direct effect on vascular smooth muscle: by inhibiting calcium ion influx, it effectively reduces peripheral vascular resistance.

Chronic Stable Angina Pectoris

For patients diagnosed with chronic stable angina pectoris, this product can significantly alleviate exercise-induced angina symptoms.

Its mechanism of action includes reducing cardiac afterload and myocardial oxygen consumption without affecting heart rate, resulting in a favorable safety profile.

Vasospastic Angina Pectoris

This product has a definite therapeutic effect on variant angina pectoris.

It restores blood perfusion by inhibiting coronary artery spasm.

It is important to note that caution should be exercised when administering this drug to patients with severe aortic stenosis. Exacerbation of angina pectoris has been occasionally reported when initiating calcium channel blocker therapy, requiring close monitoring.

Dosage Forms, Specifications and Characteristics of Amlodipine

Dosage Form Design and Specifications

Amlodipine orally disintegrating tablets adopt oral disintegration technology and are available in three specifications: 2.5 mg, 5 mg and 10 mg (all calculated as amlodipine).

Its unique advantage is that it can disintegrate rapidly in the oral cavity without the need for water, and is swallowed and absorbed via saliva, which greatly improves medication compliance.

Appearance Identification Characteristics

The 2.5 mg tablet is a white, round, biconvex tablet engraved with "ADP2.5" and "ODT".

The 5 mg tablet is light yellow and marked with "ADP5".

The 10 mg tablet is pink and labeled with "ADP10".

Composition

Active ingredient: Amlodipine besylate.

Excipients: The tablet also contains a variety of excipients, including hydroxypropyl cellulose (stabilizer), iron oxide red (colorant for 10 mg tablets), iron oxide yellow (colorant for 5 mg tablets), magnesium stearate (lubricant), menthol (flavoring agent), silicified microcrystalline cellulose (disintegrant) and sucralose (sweetener).

Storage Method for Amlodipine

Environmental Requirements

This product should be stored at room temperature between 20°C and 25°C (68°F and 77°F), with short-term storage permitted in the range of 15°C to 30°C (59°F to 86°F).

Special attention should be paid to light protection to avoid ingredient degradation caused by direct sunlight.

Container Selection

It must be stored in a sealed, light-resistant dedicated container.

In daily management, the medicine should not be placed in high-humidity places such as bathrooms to prevent moisture absorption that may affect its efficacy.

Special Precautions

Ensure the bottle cap is tightly closed after opening to avoid moisture absorption.

Tablets of different specifications should be stored separately to prevent confusion.

For household storage, place the medicine in a safe location out of the reach of children to avoid accidental ingestion.
