Bezafibrate Sustained-Release Tablets are an effective medication for managing hyperlipidemiaNCBI. However, their efficacy and safety largely depend on correct dosage and administration, strict medication monitoring, and the patient's adherence to a healthy lifestyle.

I. Dosage and Administration: How to Take Bezafibrate Correctly

1. Standard Adult Dosage

(1) The standard adult dose of Bezafibrate Sustained-Release Tablets is 400 mg daily, administered orally in two divided doses, after breakfast and dinner respectively.

(2) This dosing regimen is designed based on the characteristics of sustained-release formulations, which can maintain stable blood drug concentrations and improve therapeutic efficacy.

2. Key Points for Administration

(1) Swallow whole: This product is a sustained-release tablet and must not be chewed, split, or crushed. Doing so may cause rapid drug release and increase the risk of side effects.

(2) Take after meals: Taking with meals can reduce gastrointestinal irritation and improve tolerability.

(3) PTP packaging precautions: Always remove the tablet from the blister pack before taking. Do not swallow the entire blister pack, as this may cause esophageal injury.

II. Medication Precautions: Key Aspects of Safe Medication Use

1. Necessary Examinations Before Initiation

(1) Before starting bezafibrate therapy, comprehensive blood tests must be performed to confirm the diagnosis of hyperlipidemia and assess liver and kidney function.

(2) Medication should only be considered after a clear diagnosis has been established.

2. Regular Monitoring During Treatment

(1) Lipid monitoring: Regularly check blood lipid levels during treatment to evaluate efficacy. If the therapeutic response is inadequate, consider discontinuing the medication or adjusting the treatment plan.

(2) Renal function monitoring: Especially in elderly patients and those with renal impairment, regularly check indicators such as creatinine and blood urea nitrogen (BUN).

(3) Hepatic function monitoring: Regularly check transaminase levels and manage abnormalities promptly if detected.

(4) Creatine kinase (CK) monitoring: If muscle symptoms occur, immediately check CK levels.

3. Vigilance for Drug Interactions

Bezafibrate interacts with multiple medications, requiring special attention:

(1) Statins: Concomitant use increases the risk of rhabdomyolysis and should be avoided whenever possible. If co-administration is necessary, start with a low dose and monitor closely.

(2) Anticoagulants: May enhance the effects of warfarin and other anticoagulants; monitor prothrombin time.

(3) Antidiabetic agents: May enhance the effects of sulfonylureas and insulin, potentially inducing hypoglycemia.

(4) Cyclosporine: May exacerbate renal damage; monitor renal function.

(5) Anion exchange resins: May affect the absorption of this medication; recommend an interval of at least 2 hours between administrations.

4. Management of Adverse Reactions

(1) Muscle symptoms: If muscle pain or weakness occurs, discontinue the medication immediately and seek medical attention.

(2) Allergic reactions: If rash or facial edema occurs, discontinue the medication immediately.

(3) Signs of liver injury: If fatigue or jaundice occurs, immediately check liver function.

(4) Worsening renal function: If decreased urine output or edema occurs, discontinue the medication immediately.

III. Healthy Lifestyle: The Best Partner for Pharmacological Treatment

1. Dietary Therapy as the Foundation

Before and during bezafibrate treatment, always adhere to the dietary principles for hyperlipidemia management:

(1) Reduce saturated fat intake: Limit consumption of fatty meats, animal offal, butter, and other high-fat foods.

(2) Control cholesterol intake: Restrict high-cholesterol foods such as egg yolks, crab roe, and squid.

(3) Increase dietary fiber: Consume plenty of vegetables, fruits, and whole grains to help lower blood lipids.

(4) Choose healthy fats: Moderately intake unsaturated fats such as olive oil and fish oil.

2. Regular Exercise is Essential

Exercise therapy is an important component of comprehensive hyperlipidemia management:

(1) Aerobic exercise: Such as brisk walking, jogging, swimming, and cycling, for at least 150 minutes per week.

(2) Strength training: Engage in appropriate resistance training to improve metabolism.

(3) Exercise intensity: Moderate intensity is recommended; avoid strenuous exercise that may induce muscle injury.
