Sertraline is used to treat the relevant symptoms of depression, including depression accompanied by anxiety and with or without a history of mania. After satisfactory efficacy is achieved, continued administration of sertraline can effectively prevent the recurrence and reoccurrence of depression. Sertraline is also used to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). After satisfactory efficacy is achieved, continued administration of sertraline can effectively prevent the recurrence of the initial symptoms of OCD.
