Flopropione Tablets (Cospanon) is a drug commonly used for the treatment of smooth muscle spasms caused by hepatobiliary tract diseases, pancreatitis, urinary calculi and other conditions. Its active ingredient is Flopropione, which exerts an antispasmodic effect through inhibiting catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) and anti-serotonin action.

Adverse Reactions of Flopropione Tablets (Cospanon)

Gastrointestinal Reactions

(1) Nausea and a feeling of vomiting(2) Heartburn(3) A feeling of abdominal distension

(4) The above symptoms are usually transient. If the symptoms persist or worsen, it is recommended to consult a physician for dosage adjustment or treatment regimen replacement.

Allergic Reactions

(1) Skin rash

(2) Discontinue the medication immediately and seek medical attention if a skin rash or other allergic symptoms occur.

Severe Adverse Reactions of Flopropione Tablets (Cospanon)

Allergic and Hypersensitivity Reactions

(1) This drug is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any component of this product.

(2) Patients with a history of allergy should exercise extreme caution during initial administration. Immediate medical attention is required if symptoms such as dyspnea, facial swelling or severe skin rash occur.

Risks in Special Populations

(1) Pregnant women: This drug may be administered only when the therapeutic benefits outweigh the potential risks, and the medication must be taken under the close evaluation of a physician.

(2) Lactating women: A comprehensive assessment of the necessity of treatment and the benefits of breastfeeding should be made to decide whether to continue breastfeeding or suspend the medication.

(3) Pediatric patients: Clinical research data is insufficient, and the use of this drug in children is not recommended.

(4) Geriatric patients: Due to the decline of physiological functions, geriatric patients are prone to drug accumulation or adverse reactions. Dose reduction as appropriate and close clinical monitoring are recommended.

Risks Associated with Administration Method

(1) This drug is commonly supplied in PTP (Press Through Pack) aluminum plastic blister packaging. The tablet must be removed from the aluminum foil before administration.

(2) Failure to do so may lead to esophageal mucosal injury and perforation due to accidental ingestion of aluminum foil, and even cause serious complications such as mediastinitis.

Precautions for Flopropione Tablets (Cospanon)

Correct Dosage and Administration

(1) Usual adult dosage: 40–80 mg (i.e., 1–2 tablets) three times daily, to be taken after meals.

(2) For the treatment of urinary calculi in urology: 80 mg (2 tablets) three times daily is generally recommended.

(3) The dosage should be adjusted according to age and disease severity, and shall not be increased or decreased arbitrarily by patients themselves.

Storage Conditions

(1) Tablets: Protect from light after opening to avoid discoloration.

(2) Capsules: Protect from moisture after opening to prevent deterioration of the contents.

(3) The drug should be stored at room temperature, with a general shelf life of 3 years.

Interaction with Other Diseases

Patients with hepatic or renal insufficiency, peptic ulcer or other chronic diseases should take this drug under the guidance of a physician and undergo regular reexamination of relevant clinical indicators.
