Anagrelide (Agrylin) is an oral antiplatelet agent primarily indicated for the treatment of thrombocytosis caused by myeloproliferative neoplasms. By reducing platelet count, this medication lowers the risk of thrombosis and alleviates associated symptoms.

What Are the Indications for Anagrelide (Agrylin)?

Primary Indications

Anagrelide is mainly used for the treatment of secondary thrombocytosis induced by myeloproliferative neoplasms.

Such disorders include essential thrombocythemia, polycythemia vera, chronic myeloid leukemia, etc.

The drug inhibits the maturation and differentiation of megakaryocytes, thereby reducing platelet production and lowering platelet count to a safe range.

Primary Objectives

Reduce platelet count: Prevent thrombotic events caused by excessively high platelet levels.

Lower thrombotic risk: Prevent thrombotic complications such as stroke and myocardial infarction.

Alleviate associated symptoms: Improve bleeding or thrombotic symptoms resulting from elevated platelet counts.

This medication is suitable for adult patients and pediatric patients aged 7 years and older. The dosage should be adjusted based on platelet response under the guidance of a physician.

Dosage Form and Appearance of Anagrelide (Agrylin)

Dosage Form and Appearance

Dosage strength: Each capsule contains 0.5 mg of anagrelide, equivalent to 0.61 mg of anagrelide hydrochloride.

Appearance: The capsule is white and opaque, with the black marking "063" printed on the capsule shell.

Composition: In addition to the active ingredient, the capsule contains excipients such as lactose anhydrous, crospovidone, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, and povidone. The capsule shell is composed of gelatin, titanium dioxide, and black iron oxide.

Administered orally, the drug is rapidly absorbed, with plasma concentrations peaking approximately 1 hour after administration.

Storage and Handling of Anagrelide (Agrylin)

Storage Method

Temperature requirement: It is recommended to store at room temperature of 25°C (77°F), with brief excursions permitted between 15°C and 30°C (59°F and 86°F).

Light protection requirement: The drug should be stored in a light-resistant container to avoid direct sunlight exposure.

Packaging specification: The common packaging is in bottles, with 100 capsules per bottle.

Precautions: Keep the drug out of the reach of children and avoid storage in humid or high-temperature environments.

Note: For internal discussion among medical personnel only. For specific medication, please consult the attending physician. Drug information may change over time. For the latest information, we recommend adding a medical consultant or consulting for free online.
