THYROGEN is a recombinant human thyroid-stimulating hormone (rhTSH), formulated as a sterile lyophilized powder for reconstitution and intramuscular injection. Its active ingredient, thyrotropin alfa, is a glycoprotein with an identical amino acid sequence to endogenous human pituitary TSH.
It is produced using a genetically modified mammalian cell line and is supplied in single-dose vials containing 0.9 mg of the drug product.
Adjunctive diagnostic tool for serum thyroglobulin (Tg) testing with or without radioiodine imaging in post-thyroidectomy patients with well-differentiated thyroid cancer.
Adjunctive treatment for radioiodine ablation of thyroid tissue remnants in patients without distant metastatic disease after near-total or total thyroidectomy.
Administered as two 0.9 mg intramuscular injections in the buttock, 24 hours apart.
Reconstitute each vial with 1.2 mL Sterile Water for Injection, USP to yield 0.9 mg/mL.
Administer within 3 hours of reconstitution if stored at room temperature, or within 24 hours if refrigerated.
For diagnostic scanning: administer radioiodine 24 hours after the second injection; perform scan 48 hours after radioiodine.
For Tg testing: draw serum 72 hours after the second injection.
