Gemtuzumab ozogamicin is a targeted therapy for specific leukemia cells. Its accuracy and efficacy are widely recognized in the medical field. However, like all powerful drugs, Gemtuzumab ozogamicin requires special attention during use to ensure the patient's treatment effect and physical health.

What are the precautions for using Gemtuzumab ozogamicin?

The following is a detailed introduction to the precautions for Gemtuzumab ozogamicin:

Hepatotoxicity

Gemtuzumab ozogamicin treatment may cause hepatotoxicity, including severe veno-occlusive liver disease (VOD). Before each administration, the patient's liver function indicators, such as alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, total bilirubin and alkaline phosphatase, must be evaluated. Patients receiving hematopoietic stem cell transplantation need to monitor liver examinations frequently to facilitate timely detection and treatment of signs or symptoms of hepatotoxicity. Once abnormalities are found, Gemtuzumab ozogamicin should be interrupted or discontinued immediately.

Infusion-related reactions

During the infusion, patients may experience infusion-related reactions, including allergic reactions. To prevent such reactions, antiallergic drugs should be used in advance before infusion, and the patient's vital signs should be closely monitored during the infusion. Once an infusion reaction occurs, the infusion should be interrupted immediately and appropriate treatment should be given according to the patient's condition. For patients with severe symptoms such as respiratory symptoms or hypotension, it is recommended to stop using gemtuzumab.

Bleeding risk assessment and management

Gemtuzumab may increase the risk of bleeding, and a comprehensive blood cell count assessment, especially platelet count, must be performed before treatment. Patients with severe bleeding events, recurrent bleeding, or persistent thrombocytopenia need to quickly adjust the treatment strategy, which may include temporarily delaying the subsequent dose of gemtuzumab or completely stopping treatment.

There are other precautions for gemtuzumab, such as QT interval prolongation, risk assessment for specific AML patients, and embryo-fetal toxicity, which are equally important and require joint attention from patients and doctors.

Does gemtuzumab interact with drugs?

In drug treatment, drug interactions are an issue that cannot be ignored. Although no special drug interaction studies have been conducted on gemtuzumab, it does not mean that patients can take it lightly when using it.

Gemtuzumab interactions

Gemtuzumab is a new type of targeted drug, and its interactions with other drugs have not yet been fully clarified. When using Gemtuzumab, patients should try to avoid using drugs with known interaction risks at the same time. If combined medication is necessary due to the condition, it must be done under the guidance of a doctor or pharmacist. It may be necessary to adjust the drug dosage or change the type of drug to ensure the smooth progress of treatment.

Warm reminder: Before using Gemtuzumab, patients should fully understand the relevant information of the drug, including Gemtuzumab indications, usage and dosage, side effects and precautions, etc., strictly follow the doctor's medication instructions, take the drug on time and in the right amount, and do not change the medication plan or stop the medication on your own.
