Naldemedine (Symproic) is a peripherally acting opioid antagonist used to treat opioid-induced constipation (OIC) in adult patients with chronic non-cancer pain. It selectively targets opioid receptors in the gastrointestinal tract, reversing the constipating effects of opioids without affecting central opioid analgesia. Naldemedine is taken once daily, with or without food, and is especially useful in patients with chronic pain who do not require frequent opioid dosage increases.
As an opioid antagonist, naldemedine is essential for managing OIC in patients suffering from chronic non-cancer pain, including those previously treated for cancer, by restoring normal gastrointestinal motility and improving overall comfort.
SYMPROIC is indicated for the treatment of opioid-induced constipation (OIC) in adult patients with:
Chronic non-cancer pain.Chronic pain related to prior cancer or its treatment, provided patients do not require frequent (e.g., weekly) opioid dosage escalation.
0.2 mg orally once daily, with or without food.
