Dificid (fidaxomicin) is a macrolide antibacterial agent used for the treatment of Clostridioides difficile - associated diarrhea (CDAD). It is indicated for adult patients and pediatric patients aged 6 months and older. To ensure efficacy and prevent the development of drug - resistant bacteria, fidaxomicin should be strictly used for infections proven or strongly suspected to be caused by Clostridioides difficile and not for other types of infections. Fidaxomicin is minimally absorbed systemically and mainly acts in the gastrointestinal tract.

How to Purchase Dificid (Fidaxomicin)

Overseas Purchase

Patients may choose to consult and purchase fidaxomicin at hospital pharmacies or official pharmacies in countries or regions where the drug has been launched.

Since drug prices may be affected by factors such as regional differences and exchange rate fluctuations, patients need to make a budget and plan in advance before purchasing.

Purchase through Medical Service Institutions

Patients may consult domestic overseas medical service institutions that cooperate with international pharmacies or pharmaceutical companies.

These institutions can usually provide legal import channels and offer professional consultation and guidance.

Precautions for the Use of Dificid (Fidaxomicin)

Dosage and Administration

Adults: 200 mg orally twice daily for a 10 - day course of treatment, which can be taken with or without food.

Pediatric patients:

Those with a body weight of ≥ 12.5 kg and able to swallow tablets: Use the same dosage as adults.

Those with a body weight of 4 kg to less than 12.5 kg: Calculate the dosage of the suspension according to the body weight as per the table in the package insert, administer orally twice daily for a 10 - day course.

Preparation of oral suspension: Mix the granules with 130 mL of purified water, shake horizontally for at least 2 minutes until uniform. Store the suspension in a refrigerator (2°C–8°C) and use it up within 12 days after preparation.

Warnings for Special Populations

Pregnant women: The available data are insufficient to determine the risk of the drug to the fetus. Before using the drug, the benefits and risks should be evaluated and contraceptive measures should be taken.

Lactating women: It is unknown whether fidaxomicin passes into human milk, so careful decision - making is required.

Infants under 6 months old: The safety and efficacy have not been established, and the use of the drug is prohibited.

Elderly patients: Although the plasma concentration may increase, no dosage adjustment is needed.

Drug Interactions

Fidaxomicin and its metabolite OP - 1118 are substrates of P - glycoprotein (P - gp).

Concurrent use with P - gp inhibitors such as cyclosporine may increase the plasma concentration, but clinical studies have shown that no dosage adjustment is required.

Avoid concurrent use with drugs known to prolong the QT interval.

Methods to Identify the Authenticity of Dificid (Fidaxomicin)

Verification of Appearance and Packaging

Tablets: White to off - white oval film - coated tablets, engraved with "FDX" on one side and "200" on the other side.

Oral suspension granules: White to yellowish - white. After preparation, the suspension is white to yellowish - white.

The packaging must be fully labeled with the manufacturer's information (such as Merck & Co., Inc.), batch number, and expiration date. If broken or discolored tablets, or caked or abnormally smelly suspension are found, the drug should be discontinued immediately and a doctor should be consulted.

Verification of Drug Properties

Tablets should be intact without cracks; the suspension should be uniform without sediment.

The prepared suspension should be used within 12 days. Expired drugs or those with abnormal properties may be signs of counterfeit drugs.

Indirect Judgment Based on Adverse Reactions

Common adverse reactions of fidaxomicin include gastrointestinal symptoms (such as nausea, abdominal pain) and hematological abnormalities (such as anemia).

If no expected reactions occur after drug administration, it is necessary to be alert to the authenticity of the drug.
